Get Outside: The Best Outdoor Exercises

22nd Jun 21

When it comes to working out, you might think the only places you can exercise are the gym or at home. But have you ever considered taking your workout outside? There are so many types of exercise you can do out in nature and the fresh air that don’t involve being stuck in a room using big machines. We’ve put together 5 of the best outdoor exercises you can do to hit those workout goals and also have fun.

Want to move fast? Jump to the right section below.

  1. Yoga
  2. Running
  3. Swimming
  4. Hiking
  5. Water Sports

Yoga

Yoga is known for its calming benefits and how it can help with your wellbeing. So why not take it outside. Go to the park or out into your garden and practice some yoga there. Being surrounded by nature (and even the sun if it’s out) can give that added boost to the workout that doing it inside doesn’t. What could be better than being in nature and breathing in the fresh air whilst also getting in a solid workout!

Running

This one might be obvious, but instead of running on a treadmill in the gym or at home, take your run outside. Like yoga, being around nature and the fresh air can greatly benefit your well-being, but it can also be a good time to take a break from the day. You could listen to music or just enjoy being outside. It really is the best go-to for an outdoor workout.

Swimming

This one might be a more seasonal option, but swimming outdoors is the perfect outdoor exercise. Swimming itself works most of the muscles, making it a good all-rounder for toning and weight loss. It’s great for your joints as well as the water takes the pressure off of those areas. And sure, an indoor swimming pool is fun, but swimming outside in the sun is loads better!

*Please ensure any outdoor swimming not done in a pool is done safely and with other people present.

Hiking

Hiking is one outdoor exercise that really puts you at one with nature. It can be done with friends, family or solo, but it really gets you out into the world and provides views that very few other exercises can. It’s good for your legs and even your arms and core if you carry a big backpack. It’s also a great escape from daily life if that’s something you enjoy to really switch off and relax.

Water Sports

Finally, we have water sports. Water sports are great outdoor exercises as there is such a wide range of things to do. Kayaking, canoeing, jet-skiing, windsurfing; the options are endless. Depending on which you choose, water sports can be a great full-body workout. Water sports are good sociable exercises too as you can do them with friends or make friends with those doing the same thing. You’ll find if you are down at the beach surfing, there will be others to do it with!

There are so many different types of outdoor exercises if that’s the kind of thing you’re looking for. Going to the gym or working out from home work great, especially if that suit your needs, but going out into nature can add fun to your workout that the gym might not provide!
